Figments Friday: Throwback Addition

This is my picture so please give me credit, also I would like to give credit to the Brooklyn street artist who created this.
You probably have read this in a different post, or an interview or something (I've mentioned it a few times) but I have never finished a piece of writing. I counted and discovered that I have started roughly 18 different stories and never finished them. So I'm going to do a little something fun today and give you a clip of my embarrassing early writing and then a bit of my newer stuff so we can laugh at my lack of skill from years ago and then smother a chuckle at my slightly improved but still novice writing from this week.

Figments Friday is an original feature for writers, wherein they share something about their writing, a character interview, an excerpt, a conversation between a character from one WIP and a character from another WIP, ect.  Feel free to join in!

Rules:
1. If you use my image please give me credit!

2. You DON'T have to do the same style post as me and can post in what every style you want about whatever you want as long as it has to do with sharing your writing. (Not advice)

3. Please remember to link back to me in your post, giving me credit for the feature and make sure to link up by using the button at the bottom of this post!

Note: I reserve all rights to all of my original work. If you quote or reference any of it I ask that you give me credit. Any snippets and excerpts are works in progress and may have typos or need more editing, for the most part they are first drafts.

First up a clip from what might have been the first story I ever tried writing. It was a lovely gem called "The Queen's Circle." It was based in Ireland with a crazed plot that went ever where at once. I haven't corrected any grammar or changed anything from what it was like before. (I will forgive you if you laugh. I laugh at myself so that makes it ok.)

As you can see, subtly was not my forte, The Island Killer is the first time I've attempted it since and I feel like it is going a lot better this time but I may be blind to my own flaws. Foreshadowing didn't work for me. (I'll give you three guesses what the attempt at foreshadowing was trying to "hint" (*cough* screaming *cough*) about.)

Here is a second, more recent and hopefully more subtle attempt at foreshadowing. Hopefully it worked out better. Weather it did or not you are only permitted to quietly chuckle at that one because it is recent and it may wound my pride. I do not however have so much pride that I would not permit you to laugh even a little bit. So chuckle away my friends. (P.S. That last one was from The Island Killer)

And don't forget your writing and link up!

Beautiful People Round Two

It's my second time linking up with Sky and Cait for Beautiful People! It was helpful last time and I'm excited to share my characters more with you guys!

For those of you that don't know, Beautiful People is a meme designed to help writers learn more about their characters. The hosts (that'd be Sky @ Further Up and Further In, and Cait @ The Notebook Sisters) will give you 10 interview questions for you to answer on your own blogs. It's open all month and starts on the fifth of every month!

I'm using Finn this month, he is a major character in my first WIP "The Island Killer." Find out more about that story and my other WIP on my "About Me" page.

This is the closest picture of Finn. He doesn't have a beard though and is younger.
Meet Finn
1) What does your character regret the most in their life?

Finn doesn't regret much, he tries his hardest to live life to the fullest. If he were to regret anything it would probably be something that happened in his past. A time when he wasn't there for a loved one or special event.
2) What is your character's happiest memory? Most sorrowful memory?

He is generally a pretty relaxed and happy person, he makes the best of everything. If he had to pick a happy moment it would probably be a time when he just relaxed and had fun with his family. He's happy with friends too, but family is the most important to him. He doesn't have as close of  bonds with friends. He doesn't have too many sorrowful memories because he tries to be so bright side, it would probably be something that happened when he was pretty young like the death of a relative a little bit removed.

3) What majorly gets on your character’s nerves?

He's one of those annoying people that never appears to get annoyed by anything, but he has a secret temper that rarely comes out. He may show frustration with a tough/stubborn and negative person (sound like someone we all know and love?), but he'll keep it reserved and in check. The only time you'll see him out of control mad is if you are messing with someone he loves.

4) Do they act differently when they're around people as opposed to being alone? If so, how?

I think he is pretty much the same but probably a bit quieter and more reflective. He is always really happy and relaxed but he tries to talk more than he is really comfortable with around other people. Really he is pretty introverted, but he tries to be at least a "medium level" amount of talkative (I don't know how to phrase it, sorry.) in public to fit in and make people happy.

5) What are their beliefs and superstitions? (Examples: their religion or lack of one, conspiracy theories, throwing salt, fear of black cats.)

He's the kind of guy that is superstitious without being superstitious, ya know? He's the guy that is going to teasingly warn you off of stepping on cracks, even though he knows its total bull, but still somewhere deep inside he can recognize that there may be a one in infinity chance that it could be real.

6) What are their catchphrases, or things they say frequently?

He doesn't really have any (yet unless I come up with some to add in later) unless the person needs to relax then he will say relax a lot, but really the only real repetition in his speech is the fact that he pauses, interjecting things like, uh, and um.

7) Would they be more prone to facing fears or running from them?

Ooo, I don't know, he is one of those people that appears and tries to be fearless, or at least has convinced themselves that they are. He'd probably end up doing a little bit of both. Maybe run then turn back to face them once he was ready, or just kind of be conflicted about how to handle his fears, torn between facing and running, not wanting to do either.

8) Do they have a good self image?

He's doesn't have self image issues, but he doesn't flaunt it to impress people. He likes to look nice because he enjoys it, and he is confident, but he isn't overly confident and he still has a few insecurities, who doesn't?

9) Do they turn to people when they're upset, or do they isolate themselves?

He does a little bit of both. He tends to keep it inside unless it's absolutely necessary to talk to someone, but only if it is necessary to resolve the conflict that is upsetting him and only with the specific person that the conflict is directly with. (that was kind of a muddy explanation, sorry.) However, he doesn't really isolate  himself. He does spend, more time that usual alone, but family time is even more important to him when he is upset, even if it is just sitting quietly with them.

10) If they were standing next to you would it make you laugh or cry?

Finn would hope you'd laugh but who knows? If you cried it would probably be tears of sheer joy, or from laughing too hard.

Figments Friday

(The picture above is mine. Please don't use it without linking back to me or giving me credit as a source. I also would like to recognize the amazing Brooklyn street artist that painted this.)

Welcome to round two of a brand new weekly writing feature called Figments Friday. If you didn't read the original post or just need a refresher, here's what its all about, every Friday I am going to share a figment of my imagination with you guys. It may be a synopsis draft, an excerpt a character interview or description, a teaser quote, ect.. You are welcome to join in as long as you link up with me. You can use my picture as well or create your own.

P.S. I'm sorry about the crazy formatting issues last time. I've never really tried embedding documents before and to do what I wanted I couldn't use a regular google doc, and well things got complicated, but I think I've officially figured it out.
NOTE: I reserve all rights to all of my original work. If you quote or reference any of it I ask that you give me credit. All of these snippets are works in progress and may have typos or need more editing, for the most part they are first drafts.

This week's is a bit different from the last one, but I'm really excited about this, I think it will be a fun one. Short and simple though. Four of my more major characters are going to discuss their current favorite song.

Kali
Oh wow, um my favorite song? I don't know I don't really have favorite songs. I have favorite artists. I like The Black Keys and City and Colour. I love the soulful passion that comes through from the artists and the lyrics.
Miss Malu
I love old music and music that makes people happy! Louis Armstrong is one of my favorite artists. I love that brassy, rough, and distressed, quality his voice has. I love "What a Wonderful World," but "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is a close runner up.
Finn
Oh, man, um I don't know. I like Eric Hutchinson's music and I really like Death Cab For Cutie. I guess I like softer indie music the most. Something that's a little bit, I don't know, spunky? Lyrics are important to me, but how it sounds over all means more to me. I love a song with great bass, but the two I wan't to share don't really fit that.
Kanuha
One of my favorite songs right now is "Am I Wrong" by Nico and Vinz. I guess I relate to it a lot or something, but I just let people think I like it because it's catchy and what's popular right now. Everyone thinks that I'm like that. One of those popular kids that's perfect, and shallow and just follows what's "in," just because I like a lot of stuff that is popular, I play football, and I hang out with some people that are like that. I hate that people just take me at face value and I really hate that I'll never get a chance with the one girl I really want because of it.

P.S. I'm signing off for a while, but Catherine @ Stray Imaginations  may pop over to keep you guys company sometimes. Also, all of the weekly meme's I participate in will proceed as usual thanks to all this newfangled technology. Have a great rest of the month!

Introducing Figments Friday!

(The picture above is mine. Please don't use it without linking back to me or giving me credit as a source. I also would like to recognize the amazing Brooklyn street artist that painted this.)

Well, being the ambitious little devil I am, I've come up with yet another weekly meme. The name of this blog is kind of a mini description of myself. You guys obviously have figured out the reader and critic part from my reviews, but that leaves one word, writer. I occasionally mention my writing on here but never in very much detail or very often and I've wanted to share more of my writing with you guys for quite a while and have been planning to start up a writing meme. The day has finally come! It's the first Figments Friday! Here is how it works every Friday I am going to share a figment of my imagination with you guys. It may be a synopsis draft, an excerpt a character interview or description, a teaser quote, ect.. You are welcome to join in as long as you link up with me. You can use my picture as well or create your own.

NOTE: I reserve all rights to all of my original work. If you quote or reference any of it I ask that you give me credit. All of these snippets are works in progress and may have typos or need more editing, for the most part they are first drafts.

Here is a scene from my latest WIP.

The Beautiful People Link Up

Beautiful People is back! Thanks so much Cait and Sky! I'm excited to be joining in for the first time! I've been dying to try it out! I think it will be fun and really helpful as a writer!
(I answered them as my character. She is brand new and doesn't  have a name or picture to go with her yet.)

This month's questions:
1) What’s their favourite food? (Bonus: favourite flavour of chocolate!)
I eat pretty much anything, I really like pepperoni pizza though, when it's nice and hot and the cheese is all gooey and stringy...mmmm...

I only eat dark chocolate that is as dark and bitter as I can find it. *grins*
2) What do they absolutely hate?
Ugh, those annoying posh people with the big egos, always throwing their money around carelessly. They act like everyone else and everything is the scum of the Earth!
3) What do they enjoy learning about?
My favorite subject in school was always biology. I love nature and the life sciences. The island is filled with lush plant life and amazing wildlife. I love living their because I never run out of places to explore and things to study.
4) Who is the most influential person in their life?
I have parents that are around, but I'm not super close to them. I also have a little sister, but I'm  only close with her sometimes, we are very different. I'm very close with one of the shop owners in town, her name is Miss Malu. She is like a mother to me and has definitely made me who I am today.
5) What is their childhood fear?
I didn't really have any fears. I didn't believe in monsters and I was never scared of the dark, but I guess for a while I was really scared my dad would leave us. It happened to one of my friends and I thought it would happen to us too.
6) What is something they have always secretly dreamed of doing, but thought impossible?
I've always wanted to swim with sea turtles hanging on to one and riding on it's shell for as far as it can carry me.
7) What is something he is impractically afraid of?
Know one really knows this, because I refuse to tell even my family, but I won't go anywhere near water.
8) Are they a night owl or morning person?
I'm a weird blend of both. I like to stay up late but no matter what I'm always up at six-o-clock on the dot.
9) Do they say everything that pops into their head, or leave a lot unsaid?
I hate those people that don't have a filter and just spill out thoughts all over the place! It's so aggravating, I mean how hard is it to think before you open your mouth? It only takes a second! I'm not close to a lot of people and I'm pretty introverted so I guess I'm one of those quiet people that leaves a lot unsaid, but if you get me fired up about something I'm going to speak my mind.
10) What are their nervous habits?
I don't have any... *tugs on braid*

(Sorry about the weird formatting. Blogger is being finicky and has decided to hate me.)
